Be a volunteer

At SPEAR, we know the value volunteers can bring. Volunteers form a vital part of many of our services; from covering the reception desks at our Hub and Hostel, to working with our Outreach team to locate rough sleepers, to sharing hobbies and skills and providing mentoring support to clients, to raising much needed funds. In 2017 volunteers donated over 4,700 hours of their time to helping SPEAR’s work. This includes a considerable contribution from our fantastic service-user volunteers and over 300 hours of volunteering support from our corporate partners. We clearly couldn’t do all that we do, or as well as we do it, without your help.

Our regular volunteers are engaged in a wide variety of roles, from supporting our Outreach shifts, to covering the reception at our Hub or Hostel, to running Arts & Craft classes for our clients. The majority of these roles take place during normal working hours (Mon- Fri daytime).

We also always need volunteers to help out at our various events, in particular the fairs and collection days we run throughout the year, or perhaps to assist with counting or sorting donations, stuffing and franking envelopes for a large mailing, or collecting and dropping donations from a local supermarket. These roles may suit those who work full-time or are unable to offer a more regular commitment.

Our volunteering opportunities and requests are advertised in our regular Volunteer Newsletters. Once you register as a SPEAR volunteer, you will automatically receive these, but copies of current and previous editions are also available here on our website.

If you are interested in volunteering with SPEAR, or would just like to join our Mailing List*, please register your interest via the link below or email: You can also call our Volunteer Coordinator, Julie, on 020 7036 9764 for an informal chat.

We look forward to hearing from you!

*Please note that in signing up to receive our Volunteer Newsletters, you will also be added to our mailing list to receive the SPEAR News/Events Newsletters. Please let us know if this is a problem for you and you are of course welcome to unsubscribe at any point.
