What is Street Count?

Street Count is a nationally coordinated annual event that aims to provide a snapshot of the number of homeless people sleeping rough across the UK. The Street Count feeds into the government’s statistics on homelessness.

How does SPEAR get involved?

Once again, SPEAR is coordinating the count for the Borough of Richmond upon Thames.   However with our expanded services this year for the first time we are coordinating the counts in Wandsworth and Merton. In  November, SPEAR the Outreach Team and SPEAR volunteers will be going out to look for and identify rough sleepers. recording the data but more importantly we can begin the process of engaging them with our services helping them to move from homeless to independence.

How could you get involved?

If you want to join us you we will be meeting up at approximately 10.30 in the evening for a briefing and getting to know the SPEAR Outreach worker you are teamed with.  Counts start at about midnight and can take 2-3 hours.  Throughout this you will be with experienced Outreach staff. We will all meet up for a debrief before heading home for some well earned sleep.

When are the Street Counts?

Merton              Wednesday 15th November
