Current Vacancies

SPEAR was founded in 1986 on the principle that people shouldn’t die because they don’t have a home. Since then, we’ve developed a range of services that together provide an integrated pathway from rough sleeping to independent accommodation. We recognise that it takes both time and courage to change; to trust new people; learn new skills; take chances and commit to a hopeful future.

We are inspired by our clients; by our dedicated staff and volunteers and by the many supporters, past and present who enable this work to take place. Homelessness isn’t just a housing problem, it’s also about isolation, fear and self-doubt. That’s why we don’t just provide a roof overhead, we commit to making a lasting difference.

Outreach Worker

SPEAR is delighted to announce that funding has been awarded over the next two years to help rough sleepers across five South West London boroughs and find new solutions to prevent homelessness. This service not only works with those sleeping rough, but it will also continue the work along our pathway to ensure that our clients receive the support they need right through to being accommodated in supported living, and then onto independent living.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) Rough Sleeper grants will enable SPEAR to increase its rough sleeping Street Outreach and Tenancy Sustainment services. The new service funded by the DCLG will enable SPEAR to deliver a service that has made a remarkable difference to rough sleeper’s lives and it is very exciting to now be offering this successful service to more rough sleepers across five South West London Boroughs.

SPEAR are now recruiting for a further Outreach Worker to join our busy and dynamic rough sleeper outreach service across Merton and Sutton and Wandsworth and Kinston. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a growing outreach team, working in a fast paced environment and as a first point of contact for people that sleep rough in South West London.

This role is responsible for the outreach shifts for the service and drop in advice and assessment with stakeholder partners, helping rough sleeper’s access accommodation and support provided by SPEAR services in the borough. We are seeking an individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a partnership with external partners to ensure that we can get the best outcomes for the rough sleepers engaged with SPEAR services.

This role is responsible for delivery of the outreach service to single homeless people in South West London. This work will involve verifying rough sleepers on the street, during early or late outreach shifts and assessing rough sleeper’s needs for both accommodation and support. This role requires the ability to build relationships with individuals that may have complex needs and behaviours, so due to this factor we are looking for an individual with excellent inter personal and communication skills.

This role is for a fixed term until 31st March 2019 due to funding.
