Volunteering with SPEAR
At SPEAR, we know the value volunteers can bring. Volunteers form a vital part of many of our services; from covering the reception desks at our Hub and Hostel, to working with our Outreach team to locate rough sleepers, to sharing hobbies and skills and providing mentoring support to clients, to raising much needed funds. In 2016 volunteers, including service-user volunteers, donated over 4,000 hours of their time to helping SPEAR, which equates to over 2 years in full-time working hours! We clearly couldn’t do all that we do, or as well as we do it, without your help.
Next Volunteer Event: ‘Introduction to Homelessness’ Workshop

Our regular volunteers are engaged in a wide variety of roles, from supporting our Outreach shifts, to covering the reception at our Hub or Hostel, to running Arts & Craft classes for our clients. The majority of these roles take place during normal working hours (Mon- Fri daytime). As you will see from the ‘News’ pages, we are in the process of developing and expanding our services across Richmond and neighbouring boroughs. We are therefore not currently recruiting new volunteers to these roles until the dust settles, when we hope to have some new, exciting volunteer roles to offer.
For our regular volunteer roles, you would need to complete a standard Volunteer Application Form.
We always need volunteers to help out at our various events, in particular the fairs and collection days we run throughout the year, or perhaps to assist with counting or sorting donations, stuffing and franking envelopes for a large mailing – or collecting and dropping donations from a local supermarket. These roles may suit those unable to offer a more regular commitment.
If you are interested in supporting some of our ad-hoc fundraising events and activities, we will ask you to complete a VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM.
Still not sure if volunteering with SPEAR is for you? Take a look at one of our inspiring Volunteer blogs from Ryan to get a flavour of what it might involve. Last year we also welcomed a sixth former from Waldegrave School for some work experience. Read Becky’s account of her week at SPEAR here

If you have any questions regarding volunteering with SPEAR, or would like to join our volunteer mailing list, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call our Volunteering Officer, Julie, on 020 7036 9764. We look forward to hearing from you!
