LOCATION OF WORK
You will be based in our 9 Briar Road, Twickenham, Head Office alongside SPEAR’s Head office team including fundraising, finance and HR. Home working is part of the culture within this team and a flexible approach, which allows you to perform at your best is taken. Due to the nature of the role, you will be encouraged to visit other services/offices across SW London in order to get the stories and contacts you need to do your job.
We’re looking for an outstanding Communications Manager to lead and develop the communications function of a SW London homelessness charity – SPEAR.
You will most likely have a Communications background, with experience of having worked in the charity sector. However, we are also open to applications from the corporate sector, who demonstrate an understanding of the charity and homelessness sector.
You will have strong experience of developing multi-channel communications plans and taking a communications campaign forward through different digital and offline channels.
You will be proficient on PC systems with the ability to commission and design creative publications and branded materials, taking a leading role on the website and social media.
Strong copy writing, editorial skills and attention to detail are a must.
Experienced in building relationships across an organisation, with Senior Executives, with media, marketing companies, film, photography etc., you will have a creative flair and thrive on a fast paced environment.
You will be passionate and committed to wanting to make a real difference to people experiencing homelessness.
You will join SPEAR’s Fundraising and Communications department at an exciting time. For the last few years, the communications at SPEAR has been taken on by the fundraising team. However, with the demand on our front line services ever increasing, this new role within SPEAR gives you the opportunity to really transform and shape communications, whilst developing a communications strategy in partnership with the Senior Management team.
You will proactively engage with different teams across SPEAR depending on the style of communications needed, from policy and profile responses contributing to wider conversations about homelessness, press/media engagement, HR recruitment or launching of new operational services or strategies.
You will support and lead on communications around brand guidelines, design and produce publications and showcase the lived experience of our clients. You will take a key role in digital communications such as social media, website and SEO optimisation.
Line managed by the Head of Fundraising and Communications and working within the team, you will be working within a professional and proactive team who already work closely on communications, with effective systems in place. But with your communications experience and capacity, communications of the charity will be taken forward at the pace needed to further support and raise the profile of people affected by homelessness.
Whilst this role is initially on a contract, it is our intention to take forward our emerging Communications Strategy and invest further in the communications of the charity in the future.
