Note: Names have been changed - the story remains the same

“SPEAR has helped me to understand I am not to blame for my situation. I feel for the first time that I have hope for my future.”

– Amy’s Story, Age 26

untitledI became homeless and started sleeping rough after fleeing a violent and abusive home.   I was traumatised, isolated and scared when SPEAR found me. It took me quite some time to feel safe around and trust SPEAR staff so that I could star talking about my experiences.
I was referred to a health professional who diagnosed and treated me with anxiety and sleeplessness. SPEAR also referred me to a specialist agency who addressed the trauma I had experienced.
For the first few weeks for when SPEAR starting working with me, they met and supported me every day. SPEAR has helped me to understand I am not to blame for my situation. I feel for the first time that I have hope for my future. I’m now in a position where I am planning to move into my own place and feel ready to pursue my ambition of becoming a teacher.
