Thank You To Uniformed Groups, 8th & 10th Twickenham

10th Twickenham Guides & Brownies, Carol Singing, Thursday 3rd December at Twickenham Station
Big thanks to All Hallows Church, Twickenham, and the leaders of the 10th Twickenham Guides and Brownies, Jan and Elaine, who organised Christmas carol singing on 3rd December at Twickenham station. Despite the drizzle and cold, they brought back one very heavy bucket and four very heavy tins and raised over £435, so very well done!
This is not the first time the uniformed groups have organised an event for SPEAR. The Guides sang carols at the station last year too, took part in a sponsored sleep-out in January (together with All Hallows Cubs and Scouts) and organised a Soup Kitchen fundraising event in March. Here is some info. on their snooze event. https://www.spearlondon.orgs/organise-you-own-snoozesleepout/  Meanwhile, the Brownies held their own information and fundraising event in February. Both groups had a lot of fun raising funds and also learnt about homelessness from a SPEAR Volunteer Ambassador

Sponsored Sleep-out & Santa Marathon Run on Twickenham Green
SPEAR would like to give a huge thank you to the 8th Twickenham Beavers, Cubs & Scouts and their fundraising for SPEAR, especially the two leaders for organising this.8th Twickenham Beavers & Scouts Heidi Tania and Joanna
They have just held their annual fundraising sleepover for the Beavers and then the following week on the 5th December, a Santa marathon on Twickenham Green with the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.  The sleepover involved Bruce from SPEAR coming to talk to them about homelessness so they understood more about it.  The fundraising marathon required all the children to run a few laps to make up a marathon.  But they ran so many laps, we reckon they ended up doing two marathons!
Heidi from SPEAR who attended the event is already very warm to scouting and all the great work they do, as previously she was a Volunteer Beavers’ Assistant Leader herself for a few years.  She was delighted to meet the 8th Twickenham Scout Leaders and the MP for Twickenham, Dr Tania Mathias who supported the event.  Tania also ran a lap or two herself!  Also ‘Arthurs on the Green’ offered hot chocolate for all the children which went down a treat!  Many other local businesses also offered their involvement in different ways.
None of this would be possible without the dedicated support of all the children, parents and volunteers who made the event possible.
Twickenham 8th Scouts sponsored sleepout in boxes“Big thank you from SPEAR to all those from the community who made these events happen, have sponsored the children or contributed money in their buckets!  It was great also to watch the marathon race and see such enthusiasm.  We wish the uniformed groups volunteering great success in achieving their charity badges, so we look forward to hearing how you get on.  Keep up the good work!” Heidi Shrimpton, Head of Fundraising
