The Art & Creativity of SPEAR Peer Mentor, BB

Born in Poland, self-taught artist BB grew up with a love of sewing, painting and all forms of decorative art.  She describes her creativity as her passion.

2006 brought her to London where she worked hard, enjoying her life. Things took a traumatic turn for BB when her relationship broke down in 2014. There followed a dark period of heartbreak, ill health and homelessness until, she says, the ‘helping hands’ of homelessness charity, SPEAR, reached out to her.

Five years on, BB has begun to rebuild her life, putting her creativity at the forefront of her personal healing process. She has started studying again – one of the qualifications she has gained is that of Peer Mentoring and, pre Covid, ran fortnightly art sessions for the SPEAR service users she supports.  She created works for both SPEAR Art Fairs, at which she volunteered, as well as creating the most exquisite SPEAR baubles.

BB says of her work: ‘I speak from the heart through the art.’

BB has had her work featured at Starprint in Twickenham, as Artist of the Week.  She recently gifted one of her works to Burntwood School, Wandsworth, to thank students and staff for their ongoing SPEAR support.  Most recently, BB has designed Mother’s Day e-cards to be sold in support of SPEAR.
