You can Fundraise together without being together

You can Fundraise together without being together

2020 did bring some positives. Firstly has been the way SPEAR supporters existing and new have really stepped up during social distancing and lockdown to ensure our clients needs were met. We felt supported more than ever.  THANK YOU

The other great thing to come out of 2020 was Virtual Fundraising. When all of our events had to be cancelled, SPEAR supporters stepped in with virtual runs, relays cycle rides and obstacle courses.

It doesn’t just have to be for the sporty. Throughout 2020 there were virtual quizzes, comedy nights, yoga and more.

With lockdown continuing could you be creative and set up a Virtual Fundraiser for SPEAR?

You can still have people cheer you on

Being virtual you can still connect with your supporters. Live streaming is something  that is becoming very popular and helps you connect with your supporters, helping you interact live on social media.

If you have a JustGiving fundraising page you can livestream on your fundraising page.

You also can have a live update on your Fundraising page by using the Strava tracking app. This will show your supporters an up to date map of your progress.

Virtual Fundraising doesn’t just have to be for lockdown

Although born out of necessity, Virtual Fundraising has got a future long after social distancing has been forgotten. It is an excellent way for friends and family separated across the world to either work together or compete to become the best fundraiser.

Do it AS you want WHEN you want WHERE you want

Is a 5K run too short while a 10K too daunting? Just set a course that is the right length to challenge you but not so far that you run yourself into the ground

Remember signing up to a sporty challenge only to wake up on event day to torrential downpour? You can simply run that 10K when it brightens up, and with the tracking apps still have your friends cheering you on as you do it?

Don’t fancy that 45 minute train journey to a run’s starting point? Hit the start of your tracker when you step outside the door and you are good to go!

Major Virtual Fundraisers coming up

The biggest event confirmed so far is the Virtual London Marathon. This shows that virtual events will feature heavily in the future as  the Virtual event is running alongside the live event in the centre. This opens up the event to all abilities, as long as the distance is finished in 24 you get the finisher’s medal and T Shirt. SPEAR has 10 places and click HERE for more details.

Ride London 2021 has sadly had to be cancelled but the organisers are promising a Virtual Event in the Autumn. No further details are available, but as there have been many riders in #TeamSPEAR we hope by going virtual many more can join in this year.

2.6 Challenge version 2.0 Many of you joined in last year’s event launched just after the first lockdown was announced raising an amazing £10,000!. The organisers are planning a similar event but with a 2021 twist.
