Homelessness prevention support in Kingston

Worried about losing your home? Already homeless, sofa surfing or insecurely housed?

SPEAR offers free, confidential homelessness prevention support for people in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. We can help you understand your housing options, take practical next steps and connect with the right support before a housing issue becomes a crisis.

You do not need to be homeless to contact us, and you do not need a referral. If you are worried about your home or where you will live next, we are here to listen.

How we can help

Our friendly team can support you with a range of housing-related concerns, including:

  • Understanding your housing options

We will listen to your situation and explain the options that may be available.

  • Rent and money worries

We can help you explore support with rent arrears, benefits, budgeting and other money worries.

  • Letters and official documents

If you have received a letter from your landlord, the council, a court or another organisation, we can help you understand what it means and what you could do next.

  • Speaking with your landlord

Where appropriate, we can help you talk to your landlord and explore ways to prevent you from losing your home.

  • Finding somewhere suitable to live

If remaining in your current home is not possible, we can explore alternative housing options with you.

  • Getting specialist advice

We can connect you with appropriate housing, benefits, debt, legal, health and other support services.

Housing problems can happen to anyone. We will not judge you, and you do not need to have all the answers before getting in touch.

About the project

The Homelessness Prevention Project will help Kingston residents get advice and support as early as possible. By working with people before they lose their home, we aim to reduce the risk of homelessness and help people access the practical support they need. SPEAR already supports people experiencing homelessness across South West London, including through its outreach, accommodation, tenancy support and health work in Kingston.

The project is delivered by SPEAR in partnership with local organisations and services, including RBKares and Moving on Together. Working together enables us to offer more joined-up support around housing, health, money, wellbeing and other issues that may affect someone’s ability to stay safely housed.

This project is funded through the Ending Homelessness Communities Fund, provided by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
